Privacy Policy
Who we are
Our website address is: https://hazardouslabourgeographies.net/
The website runs on WordPress and is hosted by Siteground. Lancaster University is the Data Controller for any personal data collected from the website, including name and email I.D. from the ‘Contact Us’ form. Only Dr Sally Cawood (Principal Investigator of the ESRC project at Lancaster that has funded the website), Dr Pratik Mishra, Dr Debolina Majumder and website designers (Eyedea Studio) will have access to the administrative dashboard, where personal data is sent. Profiles of our network members (including name, affiliation, image, biography), are only posted with consent from the user, and content in our ‘In Conversation’ and ‘Blog’ series is also only posted with consent from the author/s and host (if re-posted from an existing website). For further details on the ESRC funded project, see here.
Cookies
When you visit our site, an analytics script will log your IP address (a number unique to your computer) and technical information, such as the device (desktop computer or mobile), operating system, browser and screensize. The purpose of collecting this data is to observe activity on our site and keep improving its structure and functionality for our users. It will only be used internally, exclusively by us for work on our site.
Our site uses Jetpack for site statistics, a third party service by Automattic (the people behind WordPress), to set cookies on your computer. Cookies are small pieces of data which are stored as simple text file in your browser and enable the logging of primarily anonymous technical information. You can easily view and delete these via your browser’s preference settings (usually found under ‘Privacy & Security’ or similar).
Read Automattic’s Privacy Policy
Opting Out
If you’d like to opt out of cookies – you can do so manually via your browser’s preference settings (usually found under ‘Privacy & Security’ or similar). You will find an option to ‘Accept cookies’ which—when unchecked—will stop cookies from being created and saved. Do bear in mind that many website functions now rely on the use of cookies and you might find some odd issues if you block cookies entirely. With the new legislation in place, you could now request your data to be erased in any case.
If you have any queries or concerns, please contact Sally Cawood via the Contact Us form, or directly by visiting Sally’s staff profile page here.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Where your data is sent
Submissions via the ‘Contact Us’ form will be sent to the WordPress Administrative Dashboard and to the email addresses of Sally Cawood, Pratik Mishra and Debolina Majumder. Only Sally Cawood, Pratik Mishra and Debolina Majumder (network coordinators) will access the Dashboard to review submissions. Website designers (Eyedea Studio) also have access to the dashboard (as admins) but will not process this content.
Who we share your data with
Your data collected via the ‘Contact Us’ form will not be shared with anyone outside of the project and network team (Sally Cawood, Pratik Mishra and Debolina Majumder). However, please note that the network pages, blog posts and other content in the ‘In Conversation’ series will be (publicly) visible to anyone visiting the website.
How long we retain your data
Any data submitted to us via the ‘Contact Us’ form will be retained indefinitely unless requested to be removed, or the website is no longer live. Authors/contributors can also request that any content posted (with their permission) onto our network pages, blog posts or ‘in conversation series’ can be edited or removed, at any time.
What rights you have over your data
You can request to review what data we hold from you, and that we erase any personal data we hold. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. Please see this page to learn more about your rights over your own personal data and how to exercise these rights. For further information on how Lancaster University uses, secures and shares your personal data including the contact details of our Data Protection Officer, please refer to our suite of Privacy Notices.
If you have any queries or concerns, including on GDPR compliance, please contact Sally Cawood via the Contact Us form. You can also reach Sally Cawood directly, via her University profile here.
